This 1970s dress had been sitting unused in stock for decades, due to its incredibly tiny waist. The costuming inspiration for this show was a modern rock take on a turn-of-the-century silhouette. Due to budget and time constraints, and for how hard the dancing was going to be on the shop's more period-accurate costumes, it was decided for many of the costumes to be modern pieces made to look more old fashioned.
This dress was shortened considerably to add a gusset going from the waist, under the armpit, and down the length of the sleeve. New trim was added, as well as a fully opening button front, as the actress had to undress onstage. Tucks in the sleeves and front bodice gave it more of a period feel.
