This suffragette sash was done for a voter mobilization campaign leading up to the 2021 local elections called "Empower the Vote: Suppression to Expression" through the University of Southern California's School of Dramatic Arts. It was a digital interactive experience containing art pieces and information regarding voter suppression.
I created this sash using home-made stencils and spray paint on cotton canvas, with bands of fabric for the stripes. The organizer decided to have this sash represent UK suffragette colors (purple and green), rather than the US colors (purple and gold), to start a discussion on how it started. The suit was an existing garment from costume stock.
